Odette Grassi will be presenting the May 28th Guild lecture/trunk show. Odette is a well established Bitterroot textile artist who, in addition to her wonderful art quilts, also produces traditional prints and custom jewelry. When binding a quilt with “French (folded) binding” and you have some left at the end that you don’t know what to do with, cut it in 3-4” lengths and use it for “feeder” strips to make continuous sewing and to save thread. They work well when you have to stop sewing to press something. I keep a baggie full of them next to my machine.
Also, when you’re sewing on bindings, use a #11 Milliner’s needle. They are a pain to thread but they are long and thin and you can make fine stitches. Your fingers aren’t fumbling with short needles. They do have a tendency to bend after while but they still work. They work well on batik also.
